Rotunda and Walnut Pedestrian Bridge Demolition Planned for Late November

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced on Monday, November 13 that demolition of the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge along with the Rotunda at the eastern terminus of the bridge will begin on Tuesday, November 28.

The Rotunda will be demolished first, followed by the pedestrian bridge, which will be completed in two stages. Demolition of the portion of the bridge over Columbus Boulevard is scheduled to be completed in mid-December, and the second portion of the bridge over I-95 and its associated ramps will be taken down in late January.

The Rotunda and bridge demolition over Columbus Boulevard will be completed during the day while the bridge over I-95 will take place overnight during off-peak traffic times to reduce travel impacts on I-95.

The work is part of PennDOT’s $329 million I-95/CAP project to replace, expand, and improve the existing covered section of I-95 and improve multi-modal connections between Center City and the Delaware River waterfront.
