I-95 CAP Update: Sheet Pile Installation Begins March 18 on Front Street for I-95 CAP Project

Heads up!  The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that sheet pile installation will begin on Front Street between Walnut and Chestnut streets on Monday, March 18. The work will take place on weekdays from 7 am to 3:30 pm and is expected to take 4-6 weeks to complete.

During the sheet pile installation, PennDOT’s contractor will use a vibratory hammer to vibrate the piles into place. Vibration monitors are in place throughout the project area to ensure that vibration levels remain below a level that could cause damage to nearby structures. The sheet piles are necessary to support the soil adjacent to the area being excavated for the construction of the new CAP over I-95.

Travelers making their way to the Waterfront should know that public amenities such as Race Street Pier, Cherry Street Pier, Washington Avenue Pier, and Pier 68 along the Delaware River Waterfront are open and accessible. Review parking and direction information before you visit. Waterfront parking is currently available at the Lombard Lot (Lombard Street and Columbus Boulevard) and the Market Street Lot (Market Street and Columbus Boulevard).
